Araujo & Sobrinho, founded by Manuel Francisco de Araújo in 1829, began its activities as a paper warehouse and is currently one of the oldest stationery shops in the world and, certainly, the oldest stationery shop in the city of Porto.
Their shop, located in the heart of Porto's historic center, is a cultural and architectural legacy, as demonstrated by the building's facade, with its unique tile panel; inside the shop, a vast array of museum artifacts (e.g., a statue of Saint Catherine of the Flowers), art, and typography, showcasing the longevity and diversity of this business, which has remained in the same family for five generations.
Currently, Araujo & Sobrinho is seeking to relaunch the brand like never before, having therefore undertaken major changes, not only in the management of the building that has always been the headquarters of Araujo & Sobrinho, but also in the diversity of products sold in the store, which is the only way they have made it possible to maintain the business of this century-old stationery store.
