In 1829, Manuel Francisco de Araújo opened the doors of a paper warehouse in the historic centre of Porto. Almost two centuries later, Miguel Araújo — fifth generation of the same family — continues to open those very same doors every day.

59 years ago, Miguel Araújo was born on the upper floor of Araujo & Sobrinho. That building in the historic centre of Porto was not just the family shop — it was the family home, the place where he grew up, played and learned about paper, ink and writing even before he could read. Miguel grew up surrounded by paper, ink and history. And he never left.

For 24 years, at the helm of one of the oldest stationers in the world, always under the same family, Miguel has built a shop that is simultaneously a living archive of the history of writing and a window into the best of contemporary global stationery.

On weekends, he scours antique fairs looking for rare pens: vintage Pelikan, Japanese inkwells from decades past, pieces that tell stories no catalogue records. The shop houses a small museum of old items that have never been for sale.

It is this same passion that defines every choice: from premium Japanese stationery — MIDORI, KOKUYO, Traveler's Company — to Caran d'Ache pens, to backpacks and writing instruments from the four corners of the world. If it's in the shop, it's because Miguel Araújo would approve it for his own collection.
