Description

The KAISER IDELL™ WALL LAMP 6559-W is the wall lamp in the KAISER IDELL series, designed by Christian Dell with the essential elements of Modernism: geometric forms. The series is now recognised as a symbol of Bauhaus design, for its choice of materials and the precision of its construction.

Before designing these lamps, Christian Dell trained as a silversmith and, between 1922 and 1925, ran the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar.

About the brand

The geometric light of the Bauhaus

KAISER IDELL grew out of the work of Christian Dell, master of the Bauhaus metal workshop in Weimar from 1922 to 1925. From 1926 he designed lamps mainly for the Gebr. Kaiser & Co. factory in Neheim-Hüsten, Germany.

The name combines the original manufacturer, Kaiser, with the word idea and the surname Dell. The 6631 Luxus table lamp appeared in the first catalogue, in 1936. Today the collection is produced by Fritz Hansen and keeps the simple geometric forms of modernism.

Testimonials

  • I was very happy to see Araujo & Sobrinho reopened, with materials of great quality. Walking into the shop again brought back many memories of my student days. It is a landmark and deserves to carry on this fine tradition.

  • On Largo de São Domingos, Araujo & Sobrinho is still a magical world. The old cabinets, the papers and canvases, and the same warm welcome as always take us back to times gone by. It is a house that keeps the memory of the city of Porto.
